Spring has arrived and nature is calling us outdoors.  The beauty and glory of flowers, bees and green leaves are once again making their appearance.  After being cooped up indoors for the winter it feels good to be able to enjoy a brisk walk or a stroll by the lake.  That is if you can take the time to do it.  We live in a culture that is becoming more and more dependent upon technology.  Many people are experiencing ‘computer drain’ and are finding themselves exhausted at the end of a long day’s work.   The eyes become stressed and that leads to mental fatigue, then the body is stressed because of constantly sitting in the same position.  After days, weeks and months our bodies become toxic and it begins to affect our health.  We resort to OTC pain medication to give us some relief but never regain the sense of aliveness that is natural to the body. What is needed is Mother Nature’s healing cure.  The best vitamin D comes not in a bottle but direct from the Sun.  We have all heard of the tremendous benefits that come to us from this sunshine vitamin.  “According to U.S. News and World Report, “ If you’re fair skinned, experts say going outside for 10 minutes in the midday sun—in shorts and a tank top with no sunscreen—will give you enough radiation to produce about 10,000 international units of the vitamin. Dark-skinned individuals and the elderly also produce less vitamin D, and many folks don’t get enough of the nutrient from dietary sources like fatty fish and fortified milk.”  Also stated in the same article, “the sunshine vitamin may protect against a host of diseases, including osteoporosis, heart disease, and cancers of the breast, prostate, and colon. What’s more, sunlight has other hidden benefits—like protecting against depression, insomnia, and an overactive immune system.”

There is also something very grounding about walking in nature that our ancestors understood that we have forgotten.  Fresh air is also healing especially when we have been stuck in cramped office spaces where the air is stale.  The trees add their fabulous healing benefits through the pine scents and natural aromatherapy.

Don’t forget about the inspiring views of forests, mountains and waterways.  Nature contains a plethora of healthful benefits that rival any pain pills.  Let’s go for a walk and experience Mother Nature’s healing cure!
